Curating Visibility: Plume Films and Byron Vincent Join Forces Again
A New Adventure at London Museum Docklands
We’re beyond excited to share that Plume Films is teaming up once more with the incredible Byron Vincent on a new digital installation at London Museum Docklands, part of the Curating Visibility programme. This project celebrates disabled, deaf, and neurodivergent voices in London nightlife, spanning the 1930s, 1990s, and into the future.
For us, it’s the perfect blend of storytelling, animation, sound, and immersive design, all with accessibility and inclusion at the heart. And working with Byron, who has pioneered disability-led creative spaces across the UK, always pushes our imagination to exciting new places.
Continuing a Creative Partnership
Byron Vincent, the mastermind behind Disco Neurotico and a leading voice in neurodivergent-led arts, brings decades of lived experience and research-led insight to every project. Together with Byron, we recently explored sensory experience in The In Between, and now we’re taking our collaboration to a whole new level.
At Plume Films, we love turning archival fragments, community media, and creative experiments into tactile, immersive experiences that invite visitors to engage, explore, and feel included. Combining Byron’s access expertise with our animation and film practice, this installation promises to be visually striking, emotionally resonant, and playful for everyone who steps inside.
The Artistic Vision: Joy, Dance, and Inclusion
The installation celebrates continuity and creativity across decades of disabled nightlife:
The 1930s: Ballroom dance, intimacy, and interdependence
The 1990s: Punk, counterculture, and alternative nightlife spaces
The Future: A collectively imagined, fully accessible dream nightclub
Visitors will encounter a multi-sensory, looping experience, where you can step in at any point and still feel part of the story. Music, animation, sound, and design all work together to make space for choice, movement, and joy.
Accessibility is at the Heart of the Work
This isn’t accessibility as an afterthought, it’s embedded in the design. Creative captions, British Sign Language, audio description and more ensure that every visitor can participate at their own pace and comfort level.
Curating Visibility is more than an installation, it’s an invitation to experience history, culture, and creativity in an inclusive, joyful, and playful way. We can’t wait to share this journey with visitors and continue pushing the boundaries of immersive storytelling.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Accentuate, London Museum Docklands, and all the brilliant fellows of the Curating Visibility programme. Your support, vision, and dedication to creating accessible, inclusive cultural experiences make projects like this possible. We’re truly excited to be part of this journey alongside such inspiring collaborators.
